Identify The Child
"Child Find" The state must identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities who need special education and related services
Referral Or Request For Evaluation
A school professional may ask that a child be evaluated to see if he or she has a disability.
Evaluate The Child
Results decide eligibility. If parents disagree, they can take their child for an Independent Education Evaluation (IEE)
Eligibility is decided
This is done by qualified professionals and parents. They decide, following IDEA's definition of "child with a disability" together
Schedule An IEP Meeting
Work very closely with the parents, giving them all of information they could possibly need and use. Invite them to invite anyone with knowledge or special expertise with the child.
Hold Meeting and Write the IEP
The team, including PARENTS (and the child, if appropriate) discuss needs, a plan, and a program for the child.
After the parents give consent, services begin to be provided
