Linguistics/semantics
Knights within a host or household are referred to in multiple ways depending on how close the characters are.
1 -- Sir -- This is used to communicate with most knights and is used when their is little to no connection between the two people.
2 -- Sir the last name -- This is used with household knights, who are known by site but their is little close connection.
3 -- Sir the first name -- This is used when their is a close connection between the knight normally if they are the personal guards.
4 -- First name -- This is used when the knight is a close friend to the speaker. Prince Karl and Sir William Arstan.
Becoming a knight :
1 -- a boy becomes a squire.
2 -- Most knight born in noble settings will become "bloodied". This is where they fight a fight to the death against a commoner convicted to die, if the knight to be wins they are knighted and if the convicted wins they are pardoned through the grace of gods.

As the Empire's most valuable trade city fell the empire completely collapsed and the land separated into lots of petty kingdoms.
