        The level of forces of production shapes/conditions relations of production.
        
        at early stages, relations of production (social relations) act as a form of development of production; they facilitate their growth
        
        with time, relations of production act as a 'fetter', holding them back.
        
        this creates conflict, class antagonisms: since the bourgeoisie wants to perpetuate existing hegemonic systems that favour them while the proletariat is being exploited, and revolts
      - An example of the dialectical relationship between the forces and relations of production:
        American Civil War:
        North: Forces - industrial; Relations: workers <-> owners of means of production
        South: Forces - agricultural; Relations: slaves <-> slave owners
        It is the vested interest of the bourgeoisie (the North) to obtain labourers, which is what they did by 'liberating' the slaves.
- - - - 1) Socially:
        Large majority of people occupying significant positions within state apparatuses are drawn from the same social background as capitalists themselves.
        
        they go through a socialisation process that benefits them for gaining preference in these positions in the institutions. e.g. going to the same schools and colleges, living in the same geographical and social communities, etc.
        
        Useful theory to use: Cultural Production Theory: CPU documents the way teachers unconsciously process subliminal class and cultural messages to hierarchise their students. School systems hegemonically (Gramsci) propagate and favour mainstream, middle-class, white dominated class and cultural standards. Tangible markers like accent and clothing combine with more subtle forms of expression such as eye contact, body language, etc., leading teachers to categorise particular children as undisciplined, emotionally disturbed, or of low intelligence. (referring to Puerto Rican children in ISOR)
      - 2) Economically: Positions are well remunerated, highly paid, to develop a vested interest in the capitalist system.
      - 3) Ideologically: You don't get promoted to significant positions unless you ideologically support capitalist discourse
