English Home Language:
Listening and Speaking:
Learners use language to think and reason
Learners tell their own story using unfamiliar picture series.
Learners will talk about where they fit in
(At school in Grade R/Oldest or youngest sibling in the family, etc.)
Learners discuss where they fit in: (At school in Grade R/Oldest or youngest sibling in the family, etc.)
Learners answer questions about the story: The Elephants migrate''. Ask the following questions: What is a herd? (The whole elephant family that lives together) What do elephants eat? What do elephant shovels look like? What do we call a baby elephant? How do elephants walk, loudly or softly? What do you think so? What do elephants each such a lot of food?
Grammar:
Comfortably writes own name, short words and sentences.
PW 1: Building 3 letter words
Rewrite short sentences/phase
Learners read formula sentences using pictures to guide them. The teacher will show the lear4ners the sentence cards and the learners will 'read' after the teacher. The sentence will look like this for example:
Phonological Awareness:
Focus on writing words and short 3 letter word sentences E.g. The cat is fat (HW 4)
Revising all the Phonics done throughout the year.
Learners practice writing 3 letter words and sentences on their white board.
Emergent Writing:
Phonological awareness
(Beginning sounds)
Use letter cards to build 3-letter words.
Rewrite/copy short sentences.
Learners write the phonics using sand/flour.
Eye-hand coordination
Learners read the sentences and then draw a picture to complete the sentences.
Emergent Reading:
Identify beginning sounds in selected words
Matching of pictures with selected 3-letter words
Sight words
(Term 1 - 4 Sight Words)
Using the focus story ask learners to take turns to re-tell the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Learners draw the end of the story
Learners write their sight words from term 1 - 4 in the sandpit.
Mathematics:
Numbers, Operations and Relationships:

Concept 1:
Addition and Subtraction up to 20
Number Recognition: Numbers 0 - 20
Counting forward and backwards from 20
Estimate objects up till 10 (10 frame)
Practice the concept before/between/after.
Learners look at the bottle tops placed in the 10 frame and estimate the number. Then they must count if they are correct/close.
Threading big beads on a lace. Learners must count as they lace the beads onto the string (in groups of 6)
Learners recite the counting in 2 rhyme and then count in 2's up to 30
Patterns, Functions and Algebra:
Must be able to recall 4 unit patterns without concrete objects.
Must be able to do 6 unit patterns using concrete objects.
Learner's form patterns by lacing beads on a string.
Learners use peg boards to make pictures/patterns/shapes.
Space and shape:
Math/STEAM integration:
Map work – Learners draw a map of their surroundings (main places: classroom, bathroom and front office)
Pack out 3D patterns from 2D pattern cards.
Special attention to midline crossing.
Learners help Zion find a place to land his time machine. Draw a map of the area around your classroom and make and X where learners think it is safe for him to land.
Learners cut out big shapes on the lines correctly.
Measurement:
Measuring activity to establish how much the learners grew since beginning of year.

DC 2: Collect objects or data and make representations of their observations, using concrete graphs
(use tally charts).

The Arts:
Visual Arts:
Learners are given felt, buttons, wool etc. and they must decide how they would like to make a puppet of their chose that they will use in their drama lesson.
Use problem-solving skills and their imagination to create visual art forms (e.g., choose materials to make a three- dimensional structure stable; choose an alternative way to fasten the materials if the first way is unsuccessful) VA 5
Performing Arts:
Learners explore different the elements of drama buy using their puppets in Arts to act out something funny for the class. (e.g., character, setting, dramatic structure) DR 3
ICT:
Learners are taught how to identify different icons they see on the computers For example, chrome, Edge, YouTube, Microsoft Word. ICT 15: Begin to understand that computers use icons
Science:
Learners discuss what is their place in their family and in the universe. The must draw where they think they fit in (In society)
Science Fair: Presentation on the solar system. Learners describe and name the different planets.
Value Concept: Respect (Ms Mbogane)
Theme: The Golden Rule, treat others the way you would want to be treated.
Objectives: Learners must recognize how they want to be treated and learn to treat others in the same way.

Activity:
Learners are going to watch the video about respect and discuss how the golden rule is applied in the context. Thereafter learners will be told to make a respect paper chain with 5 rings where they will write or draw how they want to be respected. During the week, if they exhibit respect to others their chain will grow and when they disrespect others their chain will shrink. At the end of the week emphasize that long chains are great because the learners were able to show respect and shorter chains mean they have to learn how to show respect and get respect back.
Crux of the weekly theme: Respect is like a piggy bank, when you show respect a coin is added and when you don’t it is like spending all the coins you’ve saved up.
