Osteomyelitis
Infection common in children and adolescents
Poorly nourished and immune compromised adults are also affected
CAUSES
Staphylococcus aureus from other infected sites
Is caused by the blood- borne pyogenic
PHATOPHYSIOLOGY
It's usually homogeneous, whereupon it is an extension of local Infection from other sites.
The infecting organism is the Staphylococcus aureaus
Hamphilias influenza and Ecoli may be implicated
The infecting organism causes the pus under the periosteum of the bone, blocking the circulation in and into the bone
Clinical manifestation
Patient may present with pyrexia
A history of infection somewhere in the body may be present I.e. Tonsillitis or a boil.
Severe constant pain
Tenderness over the infected area
Inability to move the affected part
Cellulitis and swelling
Assessment and common findings
Bone x-ray may show irregular decalcification, peristonial elevation and bone necrosis
Blood laboratory tests with an increased in sedimentation rate and white blood cells
Wound swabs andblood culture are done for the Assessment of infecting organism
Nursing Diagnosiss
Anxiety related to Knowledge deficit about the condition
Altered comfortable related to pain due to disease process
Management :
Immobilisation with a Splint
Administration of Antibiotics and analgesics as prescribed according to laboratory sensitivity results
