Thermoset Plastics - once set they cannot be reheated or reformed
Cross linked molecules - much lighter bond
Urea Formaldehyde (UF)
Hard and brittle and a good insulator. Used for electrical fittings / switched etc
Polyester Resin
Combined with fibreglass to produce GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic)
mixture of glass fibres and polyester resin
good for products like canoes/motorbike farrings etc
Epoxy Resin
Are mixed with a hardener and left to set. They can be used to make adhesives and flooring.
good for joining different materials together.
Thermosetting plastics (polyester resin including GRP, melamine formaldehyde [MF], urea formaldehyde [UF] , phenol formaldehyde [PF] and epoxy resin).
Melanine Formaldehyde (MF)
Formica
Scratch, water and stain resistant. Used as a laminate in kitchen work surfaces
Phenol Formaldehyde
Tough and heat resistant often black in colour. Ex, Saucepan handles
