Working Remotely
Social
My company did what it could to ensure employees were staying connected and that the company culture wasn't effected. All of our daily meetings were done over Zoom.
By scheduling gathering within our company we were able to stay connected. Management would make sure everyone across the region would be in attendance for social activities.
Technological
Ensuring that employees were able to have the necessary equipment to do our jobs. Each employee was given laptops, desk materials, monitors, etc.
Being an IT driven company it was easy to transition to this during the pandemic. Most employees were familiar enough with technology to make sure at home efficiency was still kept.
Economic
-
Due to a commission based structure. Employees had a responsibility of carrying out their normal duties from home that would allow them to make income to spend.
Environmental
The impact here was mainly positive. According to Anurag Sundriyal, pollution levels in larger cities like Grand Rapids for example would expect to come down to a more attainable limit (Sundriyal, 2020).
On more of a larger scale, with companies like mine deciding to move to a more remote work environment it helped make sure cities were lest congested (Sundriyal, 2020).
Political
Expansion into new geographical areas. While going remote my company was allowed to expand where we hired and how we hired. Politically, workers may have different oppinions based on geographical locations.
With remote work being an option, people may also not be voting in states where they currently work (Sundriyal, 2020).
Legal
Legally our company had to ensure that company information was not compromised. Similar to what multiple authors in the Wright Lindsey Jennings article stated, working off of certain clients was expected to there could be a monitor of what was being done during working hours (Howlett et al., 2021).
Companies will also have to ensure work from home injury plans were put into place. According to the Wright Lindsey Jennings article, workers compensation changes were necessary to handle at home work injuries (Howlett et al., 2021). Luckily it wasn't common that someone were to injure themselves while working.
