I will utilize different stories that I gathered from my diversity in children's literature class to find social justice oriented materials.
Make it a priority to build a strong relationship with my students.
Start strong on the first day of practicum with a get to know you activity.
I have always found that something less structured and more natural is a better way for me to get to know someone for the first time. Especially students.
Allow them to use the space to talk about anything that they need.
Create space so they feel comfortable being who they are with me
Create space where they feel comfortable failing and trying again
Show them that I struggle and do things wrong sometimes too.
Relevant topics/stories
Find out what they enjoy and apply that to the resources/lessons I utilize
Use the resources and strategies that I learn in this class
Utilize online resources that I used from previous semesters, but figure out a way to use it in person.
Explicit instruction
Modeling and exposing them to as much as possible.
Interactive activities and instruction
For all of theses, find resources where these diverse concepts are ingrained in them, not just the main topic.
Develop their vocabulary
Utilize rhyme and other forms of literacy
Utilize comics and other forms of writing
For all of these, honor who we are in the space
Multi-sensory learning
