It is very dangerous for a patient to have a systemic infection because this type of infection infiltrates the bloodstream which affects the proper functioning of the body and can further lead to systemic failure and death. The body reacts to systemic infections through systemic inflammatory responses (SIRS) to localize and eliminate the source of infection. Some SIRS signs and symptoms include fever, increased heart rate, and increased respiratory rate. (Chakraborty & Burns, 2021).
