Other celltypes
γδ T cells
Location: rare in secondary lymphoid organs, but rich in many peripheral tissues, such as skin, intestines and lung
Epidermis
-
DETC: induce keratinocytes to secrete antimicrobial peptides and hyaluronan -> recruitment of macrophages
Production of IL17 -> (1) release of antimicrobial peptides from keratinocytes that protect the skin against opportunistic infections and (2) promotes DNA repair following UV radiation
Gingiva
Production of IL17 and AREG -> repair function/wound healing and protective against inflammation / paradontitis
Bone
Production of IL17 -> stimulate mesenchymal stem cell proliferation and differentiation into osteoblasts -> promotion of bone formation and facilitation of bone fracture healing
Intestine
-
IL22 -> enhanced secretion of antimicrobial peptides and contributes to intestinal epithelial repair
Adipose tissue
Production of IL17 and TNF -> enhance production of IL33 by stromal cells -> stimulating proliferation of Treg and promoting thermogenesis.
Meninges
IL17 -> enhances brain-derived neutrophic factor (BDNF) production by glial cells -> faciliation of synaptic plasticity
-
IL17 -> bacterial clearance, enhanced DC antigen presentation, enhanced CD8 priming.
-
Secreting antimicrobial peptides, cytotoxic factors (e.g. granzymes) or several types of interferons (IFNy, IFNa, and type III interferons) -> kill infected cells and promote antiviral resistence.
