Design Reflection - Podcast Project
EMPATHISE
Discuss project and proposed outcome with Sam to understand Why, What, How, of her desire for family information.
Discuss w/ niece & nephew to confirm desire for project like this in broader family group. Go through same process of Why, How, What
Discuss with older family members to test, gain buy in, & understand their Why, How, What
IDEATE
Used podcast assignment to reimagine original concept of visual family tree photoshoot.
Build on idea to add living verbal family history to accompany visual family tree. Use interview & storytelling narrative format to capture first hand perspectives.
Where can this live so our family history & identity is not lost? Needs to be private but accessible and adaptive. Possible hosting site: Soundcloud
Will need to possibly teach older members of the family how to access as may not be familiar with tech platform.
TEST
Shared first two episodes w/a few family members to get feedback and make adjustments to format
Share idea with peers to test if it met class project brief & test structure concepts
Create feedback loop mechanisms to be able to iterate as needed. Possibly standard question at end of every episode & comments
DEFINE
Project Brief: Podcast on my positive obsession incorporating concepts of identity.
1- "Problem" as I initially defined it was not having a full picture of my family and it's root to share with my kids.
2-After speaking with my daughter it was clear she was looking for more than a visual and wanted more history to help better understand how her past contributed to her future.
3-In reflection I saw the podcast could be a living digital artifact to be shared broadly within our family and future generations
PROTOTYPE
First episode - set context, share the WHY and the vision. Build in the expectation that it can evolve and iterate as we create and learn.
Use music to create vibe, upbeat, familiar to what we might hear at one of our get togethers
