A/B If choking perform Heimlich. Attempt to clear airway
D- If not successful call EMS, place pt In supine, tilt head backward and continue to open airway
Causes
foreign body In larynx and pharynx
Signs of recovery
Breathing returns to normal and foreign body Is removed or swallowed
Signs of deteriorating
Cyanosis becomes obvious: patient loses consciousness; cardiac or respiratory arrest; re-evaluate diagnosis; maintain BLS and await EMS
