How do you run a focus group
Planning of a focus group
Plan out who will be the target people coming to the focus group
The people that will be involved in the focus group
Age group or age range of participants
Casual people, professionals?, etc... (will depend on what the focus group is about)
Organise when meetings will be held
Dates/Times
Durations of each session
Where (location)
Have a group leader
Ensure that the group leader does their part and leads the focus group (e.g. introduces the purpose of the focus group and brings up the important questions)
Set goals that you will want to have achieved by the end of the focus group sessions and review/recheck goals
Discover the purpose of conducting the focus group (the topic)
What do I hope to learn and take away in a focus group
Organise the roles of the focus group
When the meeting of a focus group starts
inquire thoroughly into topic of focus group
Once all questions have been asked, review them and see if anyone has any additional comments
See there are any questions/topics/debates that participants of the focus group want to revisit to resolve/discuss, etc
Be open minded and listen to everyone
Conclude/summarise everything said by everyone to see if everyone agrees with the point made
Ask for any other opinions during the summary of the discussion/debate
Make eye contact with everyone this will ensure that they are more focused, etc...
Encourage/motivate those that have not talked as much to give their own voices/opinions.
