Ancient Egypt
(Religion) On page 24 it says, "Many of the gods are represented by animals." The egyptians often made sculptures for their gods and goddesses. (Hart)
(Architecture) On page 20, the author wrote, "The first pyramid was built as a burial place of king Djoser and his gifted architect, Imhotep." Nowadays there's a law that does not permit climbing on the great pyramid. (Hart)
(Art) Jewelry was very popular among the egyptians, even among the poor. Necklaces, bracelets, and rings could be seen everywhere made out of various stones and metals like gold, silver, copper, saphier, ruby etc.
(Location) Ancient Egypt was located on the Nile river. The only reason that the ancient egyptians first settled there is because of the rich silt left over by the Nile after floods. (Hart)
(Writing) On page 34 the author states that this type of writing had about 700 completely different signs of different meanings. "For business contracts, letters, and stories, scribes used a different form of writing." (Hart)
(Government) Egypt was ruled by kings called pharaohs. Pharaohs were chosen and trained from a young age, and would rule as "co-regent" until the current pharaoh died.
Ancient China
Art-The Chinese people had an impressive array of jewelry. Jewelry was never taken lightly, and was to show your place in the hierarchy. The materials used to make such devine pieces were regulated by law. (Cotterell)
Writing-On page 11 it said that oracle bones were turtle shells or ox bones that were scorched to answer a question. The questions were often asked by the Shang kings, and were "answered" by the gods. The scorches were believed to be writing by the gods, which answered the questions. (Cotterell)
Commerce/Trade-Trade flourished during the Yuan dynasty. The Mongol emperors allowed merchants to trade and wander freely throughout their empire. Trade along the Silk Road thrived, as caravans could travel safely. (Cotterell)
Architecture/Inventions-Emperors often encouraged the development of science and new technology. The Chinese people are responsible for many inventions we know today, even if they were revised or improved later on(Printing, compasses, and Wheelbarrows are a few examples). Many of these inventions were passed along through the Silk Road. (Cotterell)
Religion-Religious beliefs were separated into the "Three Ways." Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. Ancient China was tolerant of all religions, but a few people were executed for their religious principals. (Cotterell)
Government-Ancient Chineses dynasties were monarchies and was ruled by emperors. The first emperor, Zheng, gave himself the title of "First Sovereign Qin Emperor". After his rule was over, the Chinese people felt that unity was normal, and many dynasties followed after the Qin Dynasty. (Cotterell)
Location-The author wrote "The Shang kings ruled the greater part of northern China...Their heartland was the fertile land around the Yellow River." The ancient Chinese territory had changed throughout the distinct dynasties. (Cotterell)
Indus Valley
Location - In the text it said "The Indus plain is surrounded by high mountains, desert, and ocean." The valley now covers most of modern-day Pakistan. Archaeologists uncovered cities that co-existed in the time ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, around 4,000 years ago.

Architecture/Technology - The author wrote that the architecture was very advanced for it's time. "Also, within many homes, some rooms had facilities in which waste water was directed to cover drains and these lined the major streets." The cities were smartly planned, with wide streets and sturdy walls.

Religion - The Indus River Valley civilization used ancient written texts called Vedas. We aren't completely sure, but Vedas were most likely religious texts. The Aryans believed in Brahmanism, "The religion of the ancient Aryans, known as Brahmanism, was polytheistic and heavily influenced the later development of Hinduism."

Government - The Indus Valley civilization helped influence the current Indian government in many different. The website states that that the Aryans developed the caste system which is still used in modern-day India. In the text it states that "A caste is a social group in which people are born and that cannot change." This means that a person will stay in a social class their whole life and cannot change it.
