Mesopotamia
Location: On page 6, it said The Euphrates Rivers run through the Middle East. Originally the people that live there didn't have a name for it, but the Greeks called it Mesopotamia.(Steele)
Architecture: On page 24, it says a ziggurat is a massive terraced platform made of brick. Also on page 24, it says temple platforms were being built at Eridu as early as 5,000 BC. (Steele)
Ancient egypt
Religion: On page 24, the author wrote that the Egyptians worshipped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it's difficult to work out who has who. Also, Many of the gods were represented by certain animals.(Hart)
Art: The author wrote on page 44, Mesopotamian civilization arose at the time when farming replaced hunting as the chief source of food. Also as the centuries passed, hunting for food still continued in wetlands, forests, and mountains.
Government: The author wrote that Hammurabi had 282 laws. Also the author wrote that the laws were passed down from the Gods.
Writing: The author wrote,They used to use picture symbols to represent objects as cattle , grain, or fish. Over years and years, the marks developed into a script that represent sound as well as meaning. (Steele)
Writing: On page 34, the author says that Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphics because there are about 700 different picture signs. Hieroglyphics were used on state monuments, temples, tombs, and religious papyri.(Hart)
Architecture: On page 20, the author says that the first Pyramid was built as the burial place of King Djoser in c.2650 BCE, by his gifted architect Imhotep. It rose in six stages called the Step Pyramid.(Hart)
Location: On page 8, the author wrote desert covers more than 90 percent if Egypt, called the Red Land. Also the Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile River or beside canals extending from it. (Hart)
Art: On page 56 the author wrote you can see the glint of gold everywhere in Egyptian jewelry. The gold could be put into shapes or cast in molds. (Hart)
Government: On page 10, The king was the most powerful and most important man in Ancient Egypt. He was thought to be a god or a Pharaoh. (Hart)
Religion: On page 14, it says The Sumerians worshipped many gods and goddesses. These gods were believed to have their own role.
Ancient China
Religion- The author wrote that Confucius believed that the early years of the Zhou dynasty were golden years of social harmony. Also Confucius didn't think bad, he thought that everything was just a growing disorder. Confucius believed that relationships should be governed by mutual respect. (Cotterall 12)
Government: The author wrote that earliest people to the dynasty were taken by the Gaozu. Also it talks about Wu Di examined civil servants, also during this Confucius was picked up. This tells us that the government has had many different rulers.(Cotterall 18)
Location:In the text, the author wrote that China is dominated by two great rivers, The yellow river, and the Yangzi River. Also, The yellow river flows through the rich loess soil of its surrounding northern plains. Lastly, Over the centuries, the Yellow river often broke its banks and caused devastating floods. (Cotterall 38)
Writing: The Author wrote the Shang Kings used oracle bones to talk to ancestors to see what the future held. They wrote this down on bones or tortoiseshells and placed it in a fire. They judged the bone by how it cracked in the fire.(Cotterall 11)
Technology: Some of the worlds greatest inventions came from China. Throughout its imperial history, emperors encouraged the development of science and technology. China led other nation in these areas.(Cotterall 22)
Trading: On page 58, the author wrote that trade flourished under Mongol, or Yuan, dynasty. Also, the Mongols took complete control over the silk road from 1279-1368. Chinese merchants amassed large fortunes by exporting luxury goods.(Cotterall 58)
Art- The author wrote that China has always been renowned for its exquisite arts and crafts. Also, the manufacture of decorative objects involved sophisticated techniques. Chinese rulers controlled the supply of raw materials. (Cotterall 56)
