Ancient China
Art: On page 56, it says in Ancient China ''Bronze was made into stunning ritual vessels and weaponry''. Later on they learned how to mass produce iron causing many pieces of art to be made. Ancient China was home to a precious stone called jade, it was thought to have immortality powers.(Cotterell)
Government: In the text it said that, ''In 221 B.C. the first chinese empire formed.'' The empire had its first emperor in 221-207 B.C. They even thought he would stay powerful after death due to the mandate of heaven. (Cotterell)
Location: On page 34 it mentions they live on the countryside and worked in fields. It also states that china had a rich yellow soil from the mongolian dessert. China being located in Asia helped it grow with the benefits it led to. (Cotterell)
Writing: On page 11 it says an ox bone or tortoiseshell was scorched over fire until it cracked. The Shang kings used the oracle bones to get advice from their ancestral spirits. The answers to their questions were shown on the bones with the various cracks.( Cotterell 11)
Religion: On page 12 it said the constant turmoil in ancient China led a man named confucius to develop a new outlook based on kindness and respect. He sums up his beliefs in one sentence ''Let the prince be a prince, the minister a minister, the father a father, and the son a son''. This philosophy became a popular religion called confucianism. (Cotterell 12)
Architecture/Technology:On page 22 it says ' Emperor's encouraged the development of science and technology'' The author wrote '' other chinese inventions that made the world a different place were paper money, clockwork, silk, porcelain, fireworks, kites, umbrellas, and the wheelbarrow.''This shows china was ahead in technology and their inventions revolutionized modern tech.(Cotterell 22)

Trade/Commerce:The author wrote the mongol Emperor's who controlled china also controlled the entire length of the silk road which was a series of trade routes that ran from northern china across asia. The chinese merchants on this road would trade luxury item such as silk, spices, teas, porcelain, and lacquerware. The merchants were also heavily taxed.( Cotterell 58)
