Ancient China
Art: Terra-cotta warriors are all unique, each has a different personality. None of the soldiers had the same face, each were different. Terra-cotta warriors were used to protect the first emperors so they could be protected and successful in the afterlife. (Cotterell 56)
Location: The text says that, China is located in an area that has many natural landforms. These landforms include deserts, mountains, and rivers. These landforms helped them stay secluded and protect in Northeast Asia. (Cotterell 6)
Religion: On page 11, it is stated that Confucius believed that everyone should be kind and respectful. He thought a good ruler should set an example by being fair to their subjects and only using force as their final resort. He believed that you should worship the ancestors because it help strengthen family bonds. (Cotterell)
Architecture/
Technology: I the text it said that, Chinese emperors encouraged people to explore science and technology and increase their understanding. Many inventions we still use today were created during this time. These inventions include paper, printing, gunpowder, harnesses, agriculture improvements, boats with compasses, the sternpost rudder, watertight buoyancy chambers, silk, paper money, clockwork, porcelain, fireworks, kites, umbrellas, and the wheelbarrow. (Cotterell 22)
Government: According to the text, in 221 BCE the Qin dynasty began ruling China. The feuding lords were united under one empire and one ruler.The military declined in status and civil service became more important, and people began to follow the teaching of Confucius. (Cotterell 14)
Trade/Commerce: According to the text, the Silk Road helped international trade to thrive and many luxury goods were traded along the route. Chinese merchants traded tea, spices, porcelain, and lacquerware. Merchants became wealthy and their social positions improved. (Cotterell 58)
Writing: On page 11, it said oracle bones were used by Shang kings to consult ancestors. Ox or tortoise bones were scorched over a fire until they cracked. The cracks were read to discover the answer to a question asked to the ancestral spirits. (Cotterell)
Indus Valley
Architecture/Technology: Architecture/Technology: The text said that during the Indus Valley, they were very advanced. For example, many homes would have rooms which had facilities where the waste water would cover drains and line all of the streets. Also, they were very smart in architecture and building, they would build dock yards, granaries, protective walls, and much more.

Religion: The text stated that most of what we know about the Aryans came from the Vedas, which are mostly religious texts, but they also describe the Aryans victories when they invaded India. The religion of the Aryans was known as Brahmanism, which eventually evolved into Hinduism. Both are polytheistic and include many rituals.
