Ancient China
Writing : The author wrote Shang kings used oracle to talk to ancestors to see what the future held. They scorched an ox bone or turtle shell till it cracked. They judged the bone by how it cracked in the fire. ( Cotterell 11)
Commerce/Trade : On page 58 it says 1279 to 1368 the mongols traded their merchant freely throughout their entire empire and from China all across to Asia. according to the text they traded many things like silk, spices, teas, porcelain, and lacquerware. The passage also says that the merchants were excluded many jobs and gave people heavy taxes.
Art : On page 56 is says many things were put to use like bronze, jade,silk, lacquer, and porcelain.They were the main things that were prized in Europe and Asia. It also says on page 57 that Jade was the most prized stone because of the grey, green, and brown colors.
Religion : On page 14 it says Guan Di aka the confucian god of war loved the fact he could prevent conflict. China had separated into 7 different states that were in war, during that time thousands of men were tragically killed. In 260 B.C, Sun Zi wrote The Art of War which is the oldest handbook about the military. (Cotterell 14)
Government : On page 6 it says that the Qin dynasty built the Great Wall of China for protection from the nomads. It also say that Zhou dynasty the armies started fighting and killed hundreds and thousands of people. It also says that the philosopher Confucius thought of ways for there to be peace but it didn't start to work till years later.
Location : On page 6 it says that China had the longest civilization, it lasted from 221 B.C to 1912 A.D. China didn't have very man influences because of how they cut of all their outside resources.The Han emperor dynasties grew larger and the population expanded more.
Architecture/Inventions : On page 22 it says in 130 A.D a man named Zhang Heng created an invention to tell them when a earthquake was going to take place. It also says that the seismograph was just about 6ft tall and 2 meters wide. On page 23 it also shows another invention that was made accidentally which is now also known as gunpowder.
