Ancient China
Location: On page 38 the author states the Yangtze River provided a water supply for rice cultivation in the warm southern climate. The text also says the Yellow River was the other great river of China. The Yellow River is located in Northern China. (Cotterell 38)
Art: In the text it said that China is known for its arts and crafts. They make their art out of bronze, jade, silk, lacquer, and porcelain. Artisans were considered the most important people. (Cotterell 56)
Writing: On page 11, it said an ox bone or tortoise shell was skortched over a fire until it cracked. The Shang kings used the oracle bones to get advice from their ancestral spirits. The answers to the questions were inscribed on the various cracks. (Cotterell)
Government: In the text it said that, "In 221 B.C. the chinese empire was formed." The empire had its first emperor in 221-207 B.C. They believed that he would stay powerful even in the afterlife. (Cotterell 16)
Architecture/Technology: The author said that, the emperor's encouraged the improvement of science and technology. Many chinese inventors were along the Silk Road when they had a massive impact. Chinese inventions changed the world and improved things so much. (Cotterell 22)
Religion: An example is that Chinese religion was split into 3 ways. The Chinese embraced all of the religions. The 3 religions were Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. (Cotterell 26)
Trade/Commerce: On page 58, the author said that "The Silk Road was a series of trade routes that ran from Northern China across Asia." Trade across countries started to do well since caravans could now travel without danger. Chinese merchants would trade things like silk, spices, and Teas. (Cotterell 58)
