Ancient China
Location: In the text it said, ancient China was surrounded by mountains and desserts. The land acts as a natural barrier separating China from the other civilizations. Because of this, China wasn't known for almost a hundred years. (Cotterell 6)
Government: According to the text, ancient China was ruled by one emperor.This means it was under the influence of one empire. The population was controlled by the ruling dynasties. (Cotterell 6)
Religion: According to the text, Confucius noticed what was going on in the kingdom's relationships. These bad relationships inspired him to create a moral outlook. His outlook was based off of virtuous, morally goodness, and loyalty. (Cotterell 12)
Trade/Commerce: According to the text, the Silk Road helped international trade to thrive and many luxury goods were traded along that route. Chinese merchants traded tea, spices, porcelain, and lacquerware. Merchants became wealthy and their social positions improved. (Cotterell 58)
Art: On page 16, it said that the emperor built a tomb with numerous terracotta warriors surrounding him. The terracotta army was built for him in the afterlife. Within the army are soldiers, horses, and chariots. (Cotterell 16)
Writing: The author wrote the Shang Kings used oracle bones to talk to ancestors to see what the future held.They wrote this down on ox bones or tortoise shells and placed it in a fire. They judged the bone by how it cracked in the fire. (Cotterell 11)
Architecture/Technology: In the text it said that inventions were carried along the silk road to trade with others. One big invention was paper money and printing. This led to a better system of communicating with others. (Cotterell 22)
