- - - - Religion- Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism were the three main philosophies and religions of ancient China. Which have individually and collectively influenced ancient and modern Chinese society. China has a lack of belief in god or it is a atheist state.

        Writing- The author wrote that a tortoises shell was burned until it cracked to answer important questions from the people to their ancestors. They believed that the answers were written on the bones after the fire. During this time , the Shang kings used the different bones to talk to there ancestors. - ( Cotterell 11)
        
        Trade- The Mongol emperors ruled China from 1279 - 1368. International trade thrived because caravans traveled with no danger. Chinese merchants had large fortunes by exporting luxury goods. ( Cotterel 58l)
        
        Government - In Ancient China the government was ran by the civil service. There was thousands of civil servants throughout the empire who reported into the Emperor. The top civil servants were members of the clergy , who reported directly to the Emperor and worked in the palace. The members of the clergy were wealthy and powerful government officials. (Cotterell 15 )
