Mesopotamia
Location: On page 6, it said that "the ancient Greeks called it Mesopotamia, meaning between the rivers." Ancient Mesopotamia was in the border of what is now modern-day Iraq. (Steele)
Writing: The author wrote on page 12 "By around 330 BCE the citizens of Urak were using about 700 different symbols, or pictographs." The author also wrote that the same writing was used by Mesopotamian people, including Akkadians, Assyrians, and Babylonians. (Steele)
Government: On page 40 it says, "The area under Assyrian control expanded again under Sargon II." (Steele) Hammurabi created a lot of cruel and unjust laws.
Architecture: In the text it said, "The ziggurats themselves had small temples or shrines on top, reached by long stairways." The text also talks about how the ziggurats are made out of mud. (Steele)
Art: On page 28 it says, "Jewelry was worn by both men and women and indicated status and wealth." Most jewellery was made out of rich rhinestones, and exquisite gold. (Steele)
Religion: The author stated on page 14, "The Sumerians worshiped many gods and goddesses." They also believed in ghosts, spirits, and demons. (Steele)
Ancient Egypt
Architecture: Page 20 states, "The first pyramid was built as the burial place of King Djoser in c. 2650 BCE, by his gifted architect Imhotep." Later on the pyramids had contained spells to help the pharoah in afterlife. (Hart)
Art: On page 57 the text states, " You can see the glint of gold everywhere in Egyptian jewelry." They also imported some other stones and rocks into their jewelry. (Hart)
Government: On page 12 it says, "Some of these courtiers were relatives of the king, they often kissed the ground at his feet." When people approached the king, they would have to kiss the ground around his feet. (Hart)
Location: On page 8, "The Egyptians lived on the banks of the Nile River beside canals extending from it." Most of their land was a desert, and they called it "Red Land." (Hart)
Writing: On page 34, it says "Scribes had to be experts in writing hieroglyphs, an elaborate form of picture-writing with about 700 different signs." Eventually, there was a more rapid script, that they called demotic. (Hart)
Religion: Page 24 says, "The Egyptians worshiped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who." Most of the gods are represented by animals. (Hart)
