Thermo Plastics (become plastic on heating and harden on cooling)
Plastic-raw material coal, oil and/or gas. Goes through a process called fractional distillation
Problems with plastics
They don't rot or corrode which made them difficult to dispose
ABS
Strong, tough, scratch resistant and resists heat and chemicals
PVC
Can be plasticised by different amounts to make a wide range of products. Strong, stiff, chemical and weather resistant
Polythene
HDPE (High Density Polyethene
Tough can be blow moulded, injection moulded and extruded moulding
LDPE (Low density Polyethene)
Made into thin film (carrier bags, wiring insulation and squeezy bottles)
Molecules are long chain and loose structure
Polypropylene (PP)
Versatile and flexible without breaking and can withstand variable temperatures
Nylon
Hard, tough and resist wear, hard to join
