Consequences of Climate change
Social
People will suffer more house and storm damage.
People may lose jobs due to them being in an industry that cannot continue due to climate change e.g. fishing/tourism
People may have to relocate to save living in an area susceptible to flooding
Environmental refugees numbers will increase
600 Million people live in coastal areas that are less than 10m above sea level.
More tropical diseases will spread
Economical
Places such as harbors and ports may get flooded and impact fishing and trade.
Transport systems may be damaged/destroyed.
Agricultural land that is particularly valuable could be polluted if flooded or not useable at all.
Coastal defense may be expensive to protects valuable land and property
Important cities such as London, New York and Venice could be affected by flooding.
Tourist attractions may be damaged/flooded and harm the economy of country that depend on tourism.
Environmental
Harbors may be blocked by sediment as the rate of coastal erosion increases
Fresh water supplies e.g. springs could be polluted with salty seawater (salinisation)
Ecosystems may be harmed such as the coral reefs with would affect the interdependence therefore affect the breeding of fish
The IPCC estimates that 33% of coastal lands/wetlands could be lost in the next 100 years.
Natural defense barriers such as mangrove swamps could be damaged and harm land
Loss of habitats
