γδ T cells
-
-
Location: enriched in epithelial / mucosal tissues. (Rich in peripheral tissues, such as skin, intestines and lung, but rare in secondary lymphoid organs).
-
Recognizes/reacts to: still unknown, but think of phosphorylated metabolites, markers of cellular stress, lipids.
Role / function: (1) Human Vγ9/Vδ2+ T cells are capable of serving as professional APCs. (2) γδ T-cells produce chemokines -> help organize B-cell function (makes naive T-cells activate into antibody-producing plasma cells). (3) IL17 and AREG -> help in tissue repair. (4) Signal to ILCs. (5) Production of IL17 and IFNy. (Zelf: -> proinflammatory responses. IL17 induces production of many other cytokines and leads to release of antimicrobial peptides by keratinocytes. IL17 -> recruitment neutrophils. IFNy -> activates macrophages.)
