Definition
Sudden weakness or paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face due to mal-function of cranial nerve VII, the facial nerve which stimulates the facial muscles

Lyme disease, caused by bacteria

HIV, damages the immune system and leads to belly's palsy

Pathophysiology

Edema can be reabsorbed, leaving reversible or irreversible nerve damage
Compression force may be mild or severe resulting in different degrees of reversible or irreversible ischemic degeneration of myelin sheaths and axon
Vasospasm: Retrograde vascular distension and edema within the epineurium of the bony facial canal, compresses the nerve from outsideits perineurial sheath.
