Clean the site and keep it clean and dry
Use skin barrier and dressing
Provide adequate rest until patient improve
Abscess drainage

Elevate area higher than the heart to reduce swelling

Definition & pathophysiology
It is the skin bacterial infection causing pain
It affects the lower area of the legs but infection can occur anywhere on the body or face
The skin appears red and swollen and feels warm and tender when you touch it
If untreated it can spread to the lymph nodes and blood become fatal
Health education
Teach patient about cellulitis
Educate patient to maintain healthy nutrition
Advice patient to avoid tight shoes and clothes that reduce circulation
Assist patient with stress and refer to support group if needed
Medications
Antibiotics
Penicillin
Amoxicillin
Erythromycin
Treatment
Compression stockings
Amputation may be necessary if area gets gangrenous or necrotic
Administration of oral and iv antibiotics
Diagnosis
Ultrasound to detect abscess
Wound culture to determine the factor
Blood tests to confirm and determine the infection type
