Skin traction
Indications
Repair of soft tissues, such as muscles and tendons
Decrease muscle spasms
Reduce, align, and immobilize fractures
Correction or prevention of deformity
Increase space between joint surfaces
Nursing intervention
Elevation and support of injured limb. Rationale- Reduction of edema and promotion of venous return. May also help in pain reduction.
Admister analgesics as prescribed, for pain relief.
Nurse patient on a special mattress. Will help maintain skin integrity.

Patient reported to be feeling no pains
Definition
Skin traction involves directly applying splints, bandanges or adhesive tapes to the skin below the fracture, thereafter weights are fastened.
A pulley system is then used to to pull the affected limb into the right position.
Expected outcome
Patient will verbalize relief of pain
Nursing diagnosis
Acute pain related to muscle spasms as evidenced by facial mask of pain.
