Definition
A fracture is a break in the continuity of a bone caused by applied force during trauma , disease or prolonged pressure on the bone
Phathophysiology
In a fracture there is a break in the continuity of a bone , which results in the periosteum being stripped off from the bone and blood vessels supplying the bone being served. The edges of the bone may damage surrounding soft tissues and blood vessels , resulting in bleeding into the bone tissues, including joint cavities if joints are involved. A haemotoma may form , increasing swelling in the area
