Different types of synthetic fibers
Nylon
It is a polymer called polyamide
It is strong, lightweight, lustrous and wrinkle free
It is non-absorbent smooth and dries quickly which is why it is used to make umbrellas, raincoats, fishing nets etc.
Since it is strong and lightweight it is also used to make ropes, parachutes, tents
Rayon
It is also called artificial silk
It is obtained from a natural source wood pulp, but it is further processed to make it a synthetic fibre
It is made of cellulose.
It is soft, smooth and comfortable. It is known for having a shiny texture. It is moisture absorbent and breathable.
It is used to make textiles , surgical dressings and bandages.
Polyester
Polyester is a polymer made of repeating units of a chemical called ester.
It is highly durable and resistant and is used to make ropes and other industrial purposes
Terylene is the first polyester created
It is used to make bottles, utensils etc.
Its chemical name is polyethelene terephthalate
Acrylic
Acrylic fibres fabrics are made from a synthetic polymer called acrylonitrile.
It is also called artificial wool.
It is lightweight, warm ,dries quickly, easy to wash, wrinkle free and soft to touch
Used to make sweaters, hoodies , boots, gloves, blankets, hats, blankets, rugs etc.
Its chemical name is Polymethyl methacrylate
