PROBLEM
The price for housing and rent is way overpriced in Hong Kong. Even though many homeless have jobs, they don't earn enough to be afford both a place to live in and daily necessities like food, clothes etc. Partitioned flats in a neighbourhood such as Shum Shui Po have now climbed from HK$1,500 per month to as much as HK$4,000 for a 100-square-foot room. (CUHK)
The number of homeless people have been increasing by an average of 103 per two years. However, in just 3 years since 2018, the number has climbed up to 1,562 registered homeless people. (Cheng)
63 year old Nguyen Yan Son said that when it rains, they the biggest issue is making sure their mattress and bed sheet doesn't get wet. This is because if it does, they will have nothing to sleep on/with. (SCMP)
