teachers may believe poor study habits and behaviour is normal from boys but similar behaviour woldn't be tolerated from girls

boys overstimate their ability whilst girls understimate their ability

boys are affected by an anti-learning subculture, they fear loosing status amongst their peers if they work hard or do well so gain it getting in trouble

some boys don't need a career for the job they want so think it's useless to work hard since they don't require success at school

boys and girls spend their time differently, girls usually talk which develops language and reasoning skills whilst boys play sports and games which don't develop skills for academic sucess

most school work is based on reading and writing, if it were active work and practical boys would do better
