TYPES OF ANIMALS
Invertebrates
Invertebrates do not have a backbone.
Arthropods
Their body is divided into 3 parts- head , thorax, abdomen
Their body is covered by a tough covering called exoskeleton.
They have joint appendages.
Molluscs
These animals do not have a segmented body.
Some of them have a shell.
Their skin is soft and are mostly found in seawater and freshwater.
Worms
Worms are long, tube like shaped.
Roundworms
They range in size and live inside animals or on animals.
They usually live in soil. Examples: Hookworm, Pinworm
They have round, long non-segmented bodies.
They can live in animal intestine for a long time.
Flatworms
Flatworms have flat bodies and have incomplete digestive system.
Some species are free-living while some are parasitic.
They do not have respiratory systems but have pores that allow oxygen.
Examples: Tapeworm, Fluke
Segmented worms
They have segmented bodies. Examples: Leech, Earthworm
They have digestive, nervous and circulatory systems.
They have special excretory organs which is nephridia.
Vertebrates
Vertebrates have a backbone
Fishes
They live in water and breathe through gills.
They have fins and tails to swim and stiff scales for protection.
They have streamlined bodies to cut through water.
Most fishes reproduce by laying eggs.
Amphibians
Amphibians live both on land and in water.
They have moist skin and most of them breathe through lungs ot damp skin.
Tadpoles breathe through gills.
These animals spend adult life on land and go in water to lay eggs.
Their eggs are like beads in a jelly.
Reptiles
Reptiles have dry, thick, scaly skin.
They breathe through lungs.
Thier eggs are leathery
shells, while others
have hard bird like eggs.
Birds
Birds have wings, hollow bones, and feathers.
Most birds can fly.
Mammals
Mammals are animals that give birth to babies.
Babies of mammals are fed on their mom's milk.
The young ones in mammals develop inside the mom's body
The body of mammals is covered with fur.
They breathe through lungs.
