Blood components
RBC's
Among the three blood cells present in blood, RBC's (or erythrocytes) make up majiroity of the blood cells present in the blood.
Red blood cells contain haemoglobin giving them a distrinct red color.
They have a bicon-cave shape that allows them to carry molecules of oxygen and nutrients ithroughout the body, and allow for the exitting of any waste.
Smaller in size compares to WBC's, but this works in their faovr because now they can securely carry oxygen and glucose molecules in a tighter and safer way (utulizing their bicon-cave cell shape)
Red Blood cells are manufactured in the bones (specifically the bone marrow) and are produced at a whopping rate of 9000 million per hour
They do not have a nucleus therefore, they have an indent in their centre which we refer to as a bicon-cave cell shape.
RBC's have a short life span of 4 months.
When RBC's die they are broken down in liver and spleen for iron.
A very thick liquid.
Carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of our bodies
WBC's
Also known as Leukocytes
They help fight diseases (pathogens) and are part of the immune system
have a large nucleus
Produced in bone marrow and lymph nodes
There are many types of white blood cells
Can move through capillaries and squeeze into different parts of the body.
Phagocytes:remove any infection causing microogranisms.
Lymphocytes:contain antibodies to remove transplanted pathogens or tissues.
Plasma
55% of the blood is plasma
Plasma consists of water along with certain hormones and various substances.
Except for oxygen, most materials are carried throughout the body with the help of plasma
Plasma transports blood cells, amino acids, plasma proteins, carbon dioxide, hormones, ions, heat, digestion wastes, antibodies and antitoxins which is why it is vital for the body
Blood consists of cells that float in plasma
Plasma is a light yellow liquid and its main role is to take nutrients, hormones and proteins to the parts of the body that need it
Platelets
Whenever your body gets a wound, signals are sent to platelets to immediately rush to the site of damage and form a clot to prevent blood loss.
Platelets are small fragments of cells with no nucleus. they are made in the bone marrow which is a sponge like tissue in our bones.
The percentage of platelets is very less in blood.
Their main function is to make
blood clots when the blood vessels
get damaged or ruptured.
Also known as Thrombocytes.
They are irregularly shaped and have no nucleus.
