being athenian vs foreigner. inside and outside, familiar relation and societal relation
cephlaus believes in the afterlife and punishing gods. takes what the poets write literally. trying to avoid punishment in the afterlife. very ware of those who have not done what they should do. thinks nightmares are tracking future reality

money is a means to an end. wealth allows you to be just. poor = stealing = just. money is instrumentally good. if you are just is immunizes you against doing things that will leave you vulnerable to punishment after death

parents are legislators. parents rule over children, not for own self interest, but for good of children. good parents sacrifice to advance interest of children
lay down rules that must be followed. the law that the legislators make is designed by the rulers to advance interest of legislators and their supporters
ex: congress economic bill will have money that flows to help legislators get elected again, not to the people who need it
