Med Virology: HBV - Coggle Diagram
Med Virology: HBV
Characteristics
Genomes: Consists of 3/4 double stranded circular DNA ,1/4=Single stranded
-
-
3 different structures>long filaments, small round shapes , and larger round shapes with membrane-Dane particle(Infectious vi rusmade of co-protein DNA & envelope of surface antigens)
small round shape(spheres) and long filaments(cylinders): made up of surface antigens(HBsAg) made in excess(immune escape mechanism from antibodies that form against virus)
HBV proteins
HBcAg: Forms core of virus partice, not found free in blood
-
HBsAg: forms viral envelope, made in excess as an immune escape mechanism
-
-
-
Epidemiology
In Developed countries> spread is sexual , Developing>horizontal transmission btwn children ,
MTCT depends on HBV load , transmitted via IVD , transfusions
-
Chronic
-
90% of infants, low risk or adults
-
Types of chronic HBVV
HBeAg(-):↓ viral load & replication, little progression, mutants lead to damage of liver
HBeAg(+):↑ viral load &replication (immune tolerant of HBV), slow liver damage
-
Acute Hepatitis
Final stage occurs in 4 ways: quick resolution, slow resolution n, recurring hepatitis ,chronic infection(5% of adults )
Incubation : 30-180 days , av: 75 days
