XENOBIOTIC METABOLISM
Paracetamol
-
NABQ1(ketone function & has 2 double bond) either conjugated to glutathione >convert the reactive & molecule to a de-toxified molecule which can be excreted
-
-
-
-
Functions: convert non-polar & toxic compounds to less toxic & polar compounds , conversion to H20 soluble compounds in aqueous environment
-
Benzene
Phenol undergoes Phase 2 reaction>conjugation to carbohydrate(glucuronide)>Converted to Phenol Glucuronide(soluble and can be excreted)
Benzene>enters body into the liver>undergoes phase 1 reaction(oxidation)>converted into Phenol(hydroxyl group added>soluble & polar)
Para Metabolism
Normal Doses:95% of paracetamol detoxified via glucuronidation or sulphation, <5% oxidised by P450>NABQ1 via GST(enzyme)

Metabolism of drugs
Following absorption>drug taken into blood vascular space>1.excreted through urine/faeces/air>2.Storage exchange btwn plasma & Tissue>3.Metabolism in the liver>can re-enter the blood vascular space and excreted.
