El Camino
History
Camino de Santiago or the way of St. James is a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago De Compostela in the North west of Spain.

The city is infact named after the Saint; Santiago de Compostela means St. James of the Field of stars.
When the remains of St. James were discovered the ruling monarch built a small chapel which contiuned to grow into the cathedral that it is today.
There is an interesting histroy of this pilgrimage predating the discovery of St. James' remains. The route also follows the milky way all the way to Fisterra which was believed to be a sacred place that signified the end of the world and the closest the living could get to the land of death.
Where
Due to the popularity of the Camino Santiago pilgrimage, there are several routes with different starting points.
The most popular route is the Camion Frances with the starting point of Sarria, in Galicia.
