Definition: A disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus.
With endometriosis, the tissue can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes or the intestines.
Pathophysiology: endometriosis is that endometrial cells are transported from the uterine cavity during menstruation and subsequently become implanted at ectopic sites.
Nursing care plan: tell patient that warm baths and a heating pad can help relax pelvic muscles, reducing cramping and pain. nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium (Aleve), can help ease painful menstrual cramps and should be administered by a nurse.
