Repeated sums
Repeated products
Warm-Up activity
For this part, students will answer open-ended questions to review the concepts that they have learned before, and are related to the new lesson.
We will discuss answers as a whole class when they finish. My mentor,
Yara
, finds this a good chance for them to relate their prior knowledge to the new lesson.

Interactive Lesson
Translating Algebraic Expressions From Words
Students use small whiteboards and markers to show their answers.
We both
agreed that this part of the lesson works well for both class setups, whether online or in school.
This interactive presentation has explanations, questions for students to answer online so that they can get instant feedback, and videos for them to watch in case they needed more help.
Yara
agrees that this would give a chance for students to interact and get engaged in the lesson, instead of having the lesson on a pdf with questions to solve in their notebook and wait for the teacher to grade.
Also using mini-whiteboards for this activity is invaluable, as they both engage students and allow the teacher to check students' understanding

Writing algebraic expressions
Group work:
Match expressions to sentences
We discussed this matching activity and
we both
find it a good opportunity for peer help. Students learn better when they re-explain a concept, and they use a common/familiar language to reach one another.
This activity would help in creating social connections which contribute to quality learning experiences. Especially for students with learning difficulties, these interactions help them to learn and practice a wide range of academic skills/approaches and contribute to their overall development.
Overall,
our meeting
was productive and we both can't wait to see it happening and assess what worked well and what needs modifications.

About using videos in class, both
Yara
and I agreed that it has a positive influence on students who favor audiovisual material, and also for English learners students who can use video captions and online translations tools to help them.
Yara
suggested using
Snap & Read
. This is a reading tool that reads both accessible and inaccessible text aloud and has a translation option into different languages.

The
material
for this lesson is what the students normally use in their classes. They need to have their devices, notebooks and pencils, and a working internet connection. I provide mini-whiteboards for students in my classes and they get thier whiteboard markers. I had the sets of matching activity cards printed and laminated today, ready for the students to use. The sets of cards include one set of advanced cards for students who need to be challenged.
