Political Impact of the Second World War in Asia and the Pacific
The Cold War
Japan's defeat in the War has created a power vacuum in Asia leading to the confrontation of two superpowers the USA and the Soviet Union.
Korea
Became independent in Aug.1945 after being annexed to Japan in 1910s.
Naissance of North and South Korea: The division of Korea to North and South by the UN.
North: Soviet establishing a communist administration.
South: the USA setting up a capitalist and democratic system.
Both claimed as being the legitimate rulers of the Korean peninsula. A civil war broke out when the North supported by Soviet Union and China invaded South Korea supported by the USA and UN.
War ended in a stalemate in 1953, deepening animosity and division of the two Koreas more than ever.
China
Continuation of the Civil War
CCP gaining a huge advantage over the nationalist after the defeat of Japan.
Occupation of Manchuria by Soviet Union allowing CCP access to Japanese War Material.
The Soviet Union impeding the nationalist from entering major cities.
Nationalists who kept a neutral relation with the Japanese could not gain popularity due to the public's anti-Japanese sentiments.

Occupation of USA Troops from Sep.2. 1945
Establishment of US-Approved government in Japan and war crime trial
Parlimentary system
Democratic election with enfranchisement to men and women.
Guarantee of basic human rights.
Japan banned from solving international issues through war. Prohibited from possessing military corps.
Emperor deprived of political power. Become an emblem of Japan.
Ban of discrimination in regards of blood, family, race, gender, social status, religion.
New Constitution drafted by the USA in 1946, to be enacted in mid- 1947
