Main Conflict
The patients are terrorized by Nurse Ratchet. McMurphy, arrives and makes a bet to get under the nurse's skin, but he doesn't know the realities of a mental hospital.

Nurse Ratchet, she manipulates patients with silly rules, and doesn't play

McMurphy, he arrives and begins questioning policies and demanding change.
Foreshadowing
I believe the Chief will be discovered for not being deaf because he is beginning to really support McMurphy. Nurse Ratchet will start to get frustrated with loosing power and will send McMurphy to get lobotomized based on a lie, because he will not fall like she thought.

Mental Hospital in the 1950's
Major events
The patients rebelled against Ratchet for denying them of watching the World Series, and she completely lost control and her composure.
Chief Bromden supports McMurphy, defeating his paranoia for a bit. And the fog that his mind creates as a defend mechanism disappears.
Cheswick gets his fingers stuck on a crate in the pool and drowns, it is not certain if it was an accident or a suicide.
