Affirmative form

We can notice that the verbs in English can be regular or irregular

Regular: The verbs end in: d, ed and ied

loved - played - tried

Irregular: They don't follow any spelling rule to form their past and they are less frequent than the regular ones

Negative and Interrogative forms

saw - taught - met

For these forms it is necessary the auxiliary verb did

Is it common to use the conjuctions when and
while with the simple past and the past continuous to connect actions

While Finn was studying, Dora was cleaning up her bedroom.

I had my hair cut while my brother did the shopping.

I ran to the porch and when it began to rain. When Josie finished high school, her brother started elementary school.

This verb tense is formed by the verb to be in the past (was/were) and the ing form of the main form.

Affirmative: I was watching TV when my sister arrived.

Negative: I wasn't wathing TV when my sister arrived.

Interrogative: Was I sleeping when my sister arrived?
