Basic Trust vs Mistrust
Birth- 1 year
Conflict- Relying on other people in order to meet their needs
Intimacy vs Isolation
Early Adulthood (20s, 30s)
Conflict- Feeling they cannot form healthy relationships due to earlier disappointments in life
Identity vs Role Confusion
Adolescence (10-20 years)
Conflict- Questioning who they are and trying to figure out their values and vocational goals
Initiative vs Guilt
3-5 years
Conflict- Wide social circle that requires purposeful behavior. However, too much self-control can cause guilt.
Autonomy vs Shame/Doubt
1-3 years
Conflict- Trying to assert their independence but being punished for restraining
Integrity vs Despair
Late Adulthood (60s onward)
Conflict- Essentially feeling they have been a failure in life because they feel they have not fulfilled a certain purpose
Generativity vs Stagnation
Middle Adulthood (40s, 50s)
Conflict- Fear of not contributing enough in order to better the generation whether it's through their children or career
Industry vs Inferiority
6-11 years
Conflict- Trying to master knowledge and feeling inferior if they feel they don't meet a certain level
