Anatomical Terminology
planes
Sagittal Plane= side/side
Frontal Plane= front/back
Transverse Plane = top/bottom
Body
Thorax= Base between your head and abs = chest and lungs.
Abdomen = It's your abs and stomach digestive system
Ventral = It's the belly side
Dorsal = referring the back side
Palmar = Referring to the hand
Plantar = Referring to near the foot
midline
Lateral = Away from the midline. Longer away
Medial = Towards the midline
moving joints
Inversion = Moving the foot inwards
Eversion = Moving the foot outwards
Supination = Rotating the palms upward
Pronation = Rotation of palms downward
Flexing
Flexion = Pulling the arm/body part toward once self
Extension = Releasing the flex
sides of body
Anterior = Front of the head or stomach side
Posterior = Backside of something that walks on two legs
joint location
Proximal = The closer of two points
Distal = The more distant point of two
Caudal = Is actually referring to towards to the tail
abs
Abduction = This is the movement where you show off your abs
Adduction = You add your limbs back to the body so you move them towards
Head
Cranial = Refers to your brain
cutting
Superior = top/above
Inferior = Below
Superficial = surface
deep = deep= is a point deeper in the body
