Anatomical Terminology
Body
Thorax - space between head and abdomen
Abdomen - contains your digestive system
Descriptive points
Lateral - away from the midline
Medial - towards the midline
Proximal - the closer of two points
Distal - the more distant of two points
Movement
Feet
Inversion - moving foot inwards
Eversion - moving foot outwards
Plantar - bottom of foot
Hands
Pronation - Rotation of palms downwards
Supination - rotating palms upwards
Palmar - palm of hand
Adduction - moving limbs toward trunk of body
Abduction - Move limbs away from body
Flexion - pulling arms/body parts towards one's self
Extension - releasing of flex
Planes
Transverse - dividing organisms into superior and inferior
Sagittal - dividing organism from side to side
Frontal - dividing organism into ventral and dorsal
Backside
Dorsal - usually backside of an animal
Posterior - Backside in humans. Towards the tail for animals
Top
superior - top/above
Cranial - towards the head
Bottom
Caudal - referring towards the tail
Inferior - below
Frontside
Anterior - Frontside in humans. Towards head in animals
Ventral - bellyside
