Body Regions
Brachial: The arm
Cervical: The neck, relating to the spine.
Popliteal: The back of the knee.
Orbital: The eye.
Mammary: The breast.
Nasal: The nose.
Cubital: The elbow.
Zygomatic: Top part of the chin.
Buccal: Related to the cheek.
Mental: The chin.
Directional Terms:
Posterior: The back of the body, behind.
Superior: Upper part of the structure of the body, above.
Inferior: Away from the head, below.
Anterior: The front of the body.
Medial: Toward the midline, in the middle.
Lateral: Away from the midline, outer side.
Intermediate: Between medial and lateral structure.
Proximal: Closer to the origin of the body
Distal: Farther from the origin of the body.
Superficial: Toward the body surface.
Deep: Internal, away from the surface.
Homeostasis
Homeostasis: The maintenance of the internal conidtions
Positive feedback loop: Enhances the original stimulus. Will continue in the same direction.
Negative Feedback: Shuts off original stimulus, changes in opposite direction.
Body Cavities:
Dorsal Cavity: Protects the fragile nervous system.
Ventral Body Cavity: home of internal organs.
Thoracic Cavity: 2 pleural cavities, surrounds the lungs.
Pericardial: Encloses the heart.
Abdomen cavity: Contains the stomach, intestines, spleen and liver.
Planes:
Saggital Plane: Body divided vertically, right and left planes.
Midsaggital Plane: perfectly in the middle
Parasagittal plane: Cut off, not midline
Frontal Plane: Divides anterior and posterior.
Transverse Plane: Divides horizontally intro superior and inferior.
Oblique: Result of a cut at an angle other than 90.
Body Systems:
Integumentary : Creates body covering and protects deeper tissue.
Skeletal: Protects and supports organs.
Muscular: Manipulation of the environment.
Nervous: Control system of the body.
Endocrine: Glands secrete hormone
Cardiovascular: Transports blood, carrier oxygen, co2, nutrients and waste.
Respiration: Supplies blood with oxygen.
Urinary: regulates water, electrolyte and acid base. .
Digestive: Breaks down food.
Male Reproductive: Production of offspring
Female Reproduction: Produce sperm and sex hormone.
Organization Levels.
Chemical: Atoms, molecules, and organelles
Cellular: single cell
Organ Level: Has 2 or more types of tissues.
Tissue : Groups of similar cell.
Organ System: Organs work closely
Organism Level: Organ systems combines to make hole organisms
