MORPHOLOGY
PRECYST- Round or oval in shape,10-20 diameter in size, single nucleus, large glycogen molecule & two chromatid bar.
CYST- Spherical in shape, 10-15 diameter in size, Quadrinucleated cyst, disappearance of glycogen & chromatid bar.
TROPHOZOITE- Irregular in shape, large single nucleus, actively motile in freshly passed dysenteric stool, Contain RBC,WBC & tissue debris.

PATHOGENECITY
INTESTINAL AMOEBIASIS (Amebic dysentery)- Formation of ulcer of the wall of the intestine, acute or chronic diarrhoea, stool containing blood and mucus; may be asymptomatic infection(1-4 weeks of infection).
EXTRA INTESTINAL AMOEBIASIS - Abscess of liver, lung, brain, skin(1-3 months incubation)

TREATMENT
Amoebiasis is treated with a Nitroimidazole such as metronidazole or tinidazole or Secnidazole and then a luminal amebicide such as paromomycin(which is preferred)

Food hygiene-prevent fecal contamination of food and drink, vegetables with aqueous acetic acid(5-10%)
