Different Types of Assessments, - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Report or project: The students can create a report or project where they display what they have learned about the material covered in class. By using a report or project the student will be given the freedom to present their knowledge in ways comfortable, interesting to them. The teacher can provide specific criteria for each student to meet and allow freedom to the students to meet these goals.
      - Performance Task: Performance tasks can be assigned as a form of assessment to test what students have learned and their ability to apply this knowledge in a physical setting. These assessments can be used for obvious physical tasks like music, art and P.E. but can be adapted into any lesson. For example, young students could be asked to point at or touch the correct color in a classroom that the teacher says out loud.
      - Experiment: The students can participate in an experiment with clear goals and criteria established by the teacher. This assessment will allow the student to think about what they have learned and apply that knowledge to real world problems. It also allows for students to think creatively and use their ingenuity to help solve a real world problem.
      - Roleplay or Acting: Students can act out or roleplay different scenarios in class to demonstrate their understanding of material. What would they do or say in a given situation using what they have learned? For example, if the lesson for the day was introducing yourself students could be asked to stand up and act out meeting each other for the the first time. The teacher could expand this lesson asking for creative and original answers from the students.

- - - - Different types of formative assessment:
        Entry and exit tickets
        Use these at the start and end of a lesson to gauge how much students remember from the previous lesson, or what they have just learnt. By arranging the exit and entry tickets into three piles (definitely understood, almost got it, and didn't get it) you can easily see how well the class is doing.
        Questions such as "name three things you learnt today" or "today was hard because...", alternatively you can ask students to grade the lesson by choosing an emoji (sad, happy, etc)
        Quizzes and polls
        An app such as plickers is a great way of quickly ascertaining what your students have understood, and what they may need to go over and look at again.
        Dipsticks
        Quick activities, such as the following:
        
        write a letter explaining a key idea to a friend
        
        draw a sketch to visually represent new knowledge
        
        do a think, pair, share exercise with a partner.

- - - - Why?
        
        This method of assessment helps learners to understand how they learn. They understand their strength and weakness and use this knowledge to guide themselves and set goals. This will allow them to become better learners and perform better in school and in the future.
      - How?
        
        The teacher can work with students to set personal, achievable goals for the student to encourage growth and encourage self reflection. The student can self evaluate their own performance or assignments. The student can reflect on their work, goals and production. The teacher and give the student written of verbal evaluation on their work and the goals they set and their progress towards them. Peer evaluation can be used to offer different perspective for the student on their goals and production.
  - - - Why?
        
        It gives a measurable indication to the students comprehension and learned knowledge during a given unit of work. The teacher can use this to improve or adapt lessons, or to report a students performance.
      - How?
        
        Graded
        
        Teachers can use graded assignments daily, weekly or by unit to monitor a students comprehension of the material. Generally, these are done with worksheets, homework or exams. Teachers can be creative, especially with younger students, on ways to monitor this knowledge. But, by assigning a point value to knowledge based performance, a teacher can easily compare students from any given class to quickly see those that are struggling or those that excel. Obviously, this method doesn't address particular issues a student might have such as ADHD or anxiety, but it can be a quick and useful tool. It is almost always required by schools to use this tool for assessing students. It is a quick way to get a snapshot of a students understanding on a given subject.
        
        Ungraded
        
        Teachers can use unreported assessments of learning such as a closing activity or task to see if the student can use learned material in a meaningful way. Example: The teacher could play an interactive game with the students at the end of a lesson, carefully noting the students responses and comprehension during the game. This would give the teacher a personal assessment of what the student learned in that day, week or unit.
