ABORTIONS
DEFINITION
This is termination of pregnancy.
A pregnancy is ended so it does not result in child birth
CAUSES
Maternal age
Uterine abnormalities
Ectopic pregnancy
Incompetent cervix
Hormonal irregularities
Severe malnutrition
Exposure to hazards like high levels of radiation or toxic agents
Infection
TREATMENT
Vacuum aspiration
Dilation and aspiration
Abortion pill
CARE PLAN
and monitor contractions and fetal heart rate
Measure intake and output to establish renal function
If bleeding profuse, place the woman on flat bed
Measure maternal blood loss by saving and weighing the used pad
Administer IV fluids such as ringer's lactate
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Cramping/sharp/dull pain in the symphysis pubis
Uterine contractions felt by mother
Vaginal bleeding
Vaginal spotting
